My hubby's step brother is in town and has been staying with us since 2 days before. My hubby and his half brother are kinda street-smart type of people. On the other hand, his step brother is more like "book-smart" type. This is my first time to see him in person and found him a real nice guy. He is going to Asia from here after.

The other day I went to Coco Cove, an upscale version of ABC Store in Hawaii to pick up Kalua pig. OMG! This is one-of-a kind Hawaiian kalua hush I have ever had. Ono's is good too but one of my coworkers pushed me to go get the one at Coco Cove in Waikiki. She is real local from Kaneohe so I trusted her. I am telling you guys. This Kalua pork is something with lots of flavors and is not dry at all.

Do you know this site? I happened to come across this info when I was reading KHNL news online. It has lots of coupons you can use on everyday basis.

I have started to work with another illustrator/graphic designer for our product. We gotta figure out when to start selling it. Another project is going on right now and things are getting going with it.

When these stuff have got on a right track, I am moving forward to put more effort in them and may have to give up my full-time job.

I haven't upated this blog for a while....sigh..... I've been busy recenlty with work as well as our own business. My husband and I set up a company and are trying to make a move to go to a next level.

What we are trying to do is to sell Hawaii-originated goods online in Japan market. I am being engaged in discussions with a Japanese graphic designer for making a package label and a logo.

Will let you guys know the progress later.

New iMAC

We got a new computer!!!! Finally......(LOL). I used my old PC until it went dead (LOL). Haven't done backup yet though. I think it did a good job cuz i used it for about 6 years. Geeeeeeeeez (LOL).

As to MAC, it's been a while since I used it at work. At that time I was using Email software called "EUDORA". Anyway, keyboard, shortcut keys and stuff are different from those of Windows so it would take time for me to get used to it. But once I got accustomed to it, things will go alright.

Before I forget, do MAC users use antivirus software? I heard that MAC is high tolerance to viruses. Is that true? Or is it just that hackers and bad guys target mostly at Windows?

My hubby left for Shanghai, China with his friend/business partner this morning. They will be flying by way of Kansai Airport, Japan. Geeeeez, I've never been in China, I wish I could go with them.

By the way, I was lucky to be in Waikiki yesterday. Haagen Dats offered free icecreams with 2 new flavors yesterday. It was until 8:30pm. I was able to get there and make it! Tried one of the new flavors called "Sticky tuffy....", which I already tried before. Anyway, free is always good! ha,ha...
The lady of the shop was saying out loud, "FREE ICECREAM!!" . Lots of people waking on Kalakaua Ave. could not resist temptation and got free icecream.

Geeeeez, it was really refreshing from my hard work.

"Mac 24/7", a new restaurant in Hilton Prince Kuhio Waikiki hotel

The other day Hilton Prince Kuhio Waikiki hotel (formerly knows as Raddison Prince Kuhio Waikiki)'s new restaurant "Mac 24/7" invited us for Concierge party and we had a great time there.
I believe they were called "Trellis" before and newly renovated. Mac 24/7, as you already know, are open around the clock, daily. You can go and eat anytime.

I really don't remember the names of all the food we had at the party. But I try. From the left to the bottom right, "Pan cake", "Fried Calamari", "roast beef", "Chinese salad", "cakes", "hamburger", "cream stew covered with pie", "Saimin" and "Ahi and "Kimchi rice". They are pretty good except Saimin. I don't know why, but the noodle was like rubber, too rough. I recommend to order meat dish and calamari.

Hi, Guys. Long time no see. I was busy at work trying to get myself on track. Anyway, I am alive (LOL).

Yesterday there was a concierge party at Ruth's Chris Steak House which opened in Waikiki Beachwalk recently. 4 of us, Concierge hit the restaurant and had a great time! Geeeeez, what a juicy steak we had. Actually i went for Mahimahi, which I shouldn't have ordered. Totally forgot about the fact we were at a steak house (LOL).

This is Caesar salad topped with sliced cheese and pepper.

Here are picture of Fillet Mignon other staff ordered. Geeeeez, it was really juicy.

This is what I ordered.........Mahimahi topped with diced pineapple. Huh.....it was so, so. I learned that you should not order anything else but steak at a steak house.

Mushed potato and spinach salad that come with entrees.

OMG, it was a hit! Cinnamon apple pie topped with vanilla icecream. I couldn't stop eating like a pig.

Finally my day-off has come! I am the youngest in the hotel seniority-wise, so my day-off changes every week. This week is Saturday and Sunday but next week is gonna be Wednesday and Sunday, which sucks! split!

Looks like former Yokozuna Sumo Champion from Hawaii, Musashimaru is in town now. Check out Honolulu Advertiser. He is here for giving professional opinion about setting up a Sumo wrestling ring in Waianae where he is originally from. Nowadays Sumo industry in Japan doesn't have any Sumo wrestlers who are from Hawaii though there are some from other countries like Russian, Mongol, etc. So they want to have Hawaiian Sumo wrestlers back.

Finally the weekend has come! I am working at a hotel in Waikiki which is not cater to Japanese tourists, actually to any kind of nationality. This fits my style. I don't like to hang out with only Japanese friends but mingle with any kind of nationality. So my friends are Malaysian, Laotian, Korean, Chinese,　Japanese, etc.

Anyway, work is tough. Geeeez, i gotta learn soooooooooo many things. I am too old to remember everything I learned so far. What can I do? But I like to deal with people, talk to people in English, help tourists out with recommending nice restaurants, giving them directions and points of interest, etc. When I worked as interpreter in Japan, I found myself really comfortable talking to people and helping them. My parents think I am shy and introvert. I sometimes show this side of myself but I can be very positive, active, energetic, passionate and talkative. Right now i am not confident in my skills of working at a hotel but things will get going once I've got confidence!

I am going to work at one of the hotels in Waikiki !! It's my first time to be in hotel/hospitality industry and really exciting.

I got 3 job offers in total and this was the best. Also waiting for job assignments from several employment agencies but they didn't call me back. One of the job offers was made in December actually, but the owner stopped contacting me since. So I thought he wouldn't pick me for the position. But he contacted me last week out of blue. Geeeeeeez, it's too late. He said there was some problem in his organization and plan. But i am not that patient, just waiting for his call/email. So I made a move.

Yes, i made it! I finally settled down in a permanent job. Had back-to-back job interviews for the last few weeks and got an official job offer yesterday. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeh!
This is a Japanese-speaking position and needs to deal with Japanese customers. But this company's majority customers are made up of mainlanders and people from other English-speaking countries. So that sounds really good to me! And a lot of employees are locals.

My assignment with Sony was over 2 days ago. sigh.......i was really bored doing nothing at the office though really enjoyed working for Sony Open on Wednesday. The one I helped them out with was Satellite Pro-Am Tournament at Pearl CC. There were lots of Japanese players participating in this game as well as professional playes. I don't play golf so can't tell famous playes from commoners (LOL). What I did was helping Japanese players out with interpreting what English-speakers were talking about at the hole, which reminded me of my previous career in Japan. I really liked helping people communicate with each other as interpreter but not for conference interpreting. Geeeeez, that was tiring and stressing.

I saw some famous ppl cruising around the country club. 2 big-time chefs, Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi.

10 years Green card

It's already January, so I gotta get started with preparation of Green card. Yes, I have 2 years Green card but it will expire soon. This 2 years one is conditional and I have to have the conditions removed to get my 10 years card. Gosh, that gives me headache, biiiiiiiiig time. Collect lots of documenets that prove our marriage is based on love, such as our pictures, emails, receipts of presents/gifts both of us give each other, etc. We also need a few support letters, like "XX and YY are a happily married couple. I see them every now and then and and she invites me to their family gathering.......". That nighmare i had 2 years ago are coming back again.

ALOHA! How was your New Year? I went back to work on 2nd. Geeeeez, too early! I am working for a Japanese electronics giant in Honolulu and this assignment will be completed next week. sigh.......don't wanna work with them any more. The ppl I am working with right now don't know what they are doing, which causes lots of troubles.

I haven't had any luck with work since I left my previous company. But no, hell no regrets of leaving that company. I had an interview with a hotel in Waikiki today but don't know if this is what I wanna do. Dealing with ppl is OK. I like it. But handling Japanese tourists' complaints is another story (LOL). geeeeeez, I hate that.

I will contact temp agencies sometime next week!

I knew that he was going to make it. KO KIMURA, one of the NO.1 House DJs in Japan filled up Lotus Soundbar 120%. Geeeeeeez, he took over the in-house DJ at 12am after New Year countdown and OMG! the main room got in full swing in no time. Everybody there was dancing like crazy. GOOD!

He has been a DJ for over 15 years and knows how to entertain people with his music and play. I kept telling Sachi how much I was impressed by his performance.

Lotus successfully opened the hop-hop room tonight and things are getting going. But I still like House, especially Ko Kimura's. Hope he will be back next year!

Wow, finally. Blogger and Google account were connected, which makes everything easier.

Anyway, I started working for some company near the airport on Tuesday. The position is Japanese-speaking office assistant but there is no chance to speak Japanese (LOL). The one individual I am working with is actually Japanese from Japan but doesn't speak any Japanese with me. Apparently she doesn't want to speak Japanese so we communicate in English, which puts me in an awkward situation. (She speaks Japanese and I heard her speaking perfect Japanese). Don't you feel uncomfortable or awkward if you talk with someone from the same country as you in English? But it's OK I speak English too.

And most of the employees in the office are locals or those from US mainland. So there are only a few who are Japanese and speak Japanese. Anyway, I am enjoying working there. This is only a temporary job and the assignment will be completed in the middle of January.

Chodang, a new Korean place nearby

My hubby is working his ass off every day and he finally got around to a day off last Wednesday. So we decided to go to a newly-opened Korean restaurant called Chodang (map). My friend told me later that they have another 2 locations in Honolulu, one in Imperial palace near downtown and other on Piikoi st. near Payless shoe.

We ordered Kalbi, Kimchi stew and Oxtail soup. Kalbi is relatively sweet rather than spicy. Kimchi stew is good. Oxtail soup was .......so, so. It should be cooked longer. Some of the dish are pricey. But we like the food over here. We will def. come back.

Happy Thanksgiving! My husband and I spend Thanksgiving at his sister's place in Kailua every year and this year is no exception. She invited our friends Sachi & Kevin too. We got there around 2pm after stopping by Daiei Kailua to get more stuff to eat. She made lotta food this year too. Geeeeeez, it always makes me think where the heck she has energy to make so much food. This is not an easy thing to do, especially for me. Rob's brother and his friend were already there eating. Anyway, no more words are necessary. Just take a look at the pics below and you will know how much we enjoyed the 2006 Thanksgiving.

I joined another Thanksgiving last Saturday with my friend Consuela. This was held by my ex-coworkers at one of the luxury condos in Waikiki. I was so glad that they invited me to the party though i left the company (to be precise, they were my clients. We are still friends!). Pot luck style with lots of good stuff made by participants including me! he,he... I made Gyoza which came out pretty good although I got panicked cuz I got off to a bad start. Geeeeeez, the Gyoza wrappers I got at Donki were horrible. Those I usually use were all sold out so end up getting other kind, which stuck to the pan. I was worn out from cooking (LOL).

Geeeeez, Christmas season has just set in and we gotta go shopping but not now. Firstly we have no time, especially my hubby doesn't. Secondly we have no money (LOL) to shop. Hopefully he will get paid soon. Since I'm not working for a moment, our budget is pretty tight. Rob's mom and his step father are coming to town next month to celebrate Christmas together with us. This is the time of the year they come visit Hawaii. They got us a nice and comfortable PC chair on last Christmas. We got them what? Forgot. Oh, yuh, we got his mom muu-muu but she didn't like the design and color so she exchange it to something else before she flew out.

Again! I watched Last Samurai on TV tonight and again, i cried. Geeeeeez, every time at the same scene. "Katsumoto dies with the aid of Nathen, and then the chief guy of the Japanese imperial army bend down with his hut taken off to respect Katsumoto's death and bravery. I will be busy toward this weekend. First off, I am going to a small retail shop party on Kapiolani Ave. The boutique called Bamboo Sky is going to throw a party with free drinks and snacks. And they have special discount. All of the stuff in the shop is 10% OFF. Geeeeez, I luv it! I like their clothes which they buy in LA. Consuela and I are going to check out the party.

And tomorrow night I am going to take another girl friend of mine M to Lotus Sound Bar in Waikiki. Will hit the club around 11:30pm.

Then Saturday is going to be spent at one of my ex-coworkers' place. He, another ex-coworker of mine are inviting me and Consuela for their BBQ party. Yeeeeeeeeeeeah! It's like a pot luck so I am going to make or bring something !

Dim Sum at Chinatown

Last Saturday my Chinese friend C and I went to a dim sum restaurant in Chinatown. OMG, it was for a while since I had dim sumd last. Here are some pics. The one on the left is the plates we ordered. Shrimp, pork, beef, veggie, etc. And the one to the right is look fan being fried. We ordered look fan with shrimp. All of them were sooooooooo good. I forgot the name of the restaurant. The place is located right next to Bank of Hawaii building on Maunakea St. and King St. I believe one plate is only $1.50. Geeeez, what a deal. We ordered a lot but they all came out like only $9.

Tonight my friend and I cruised around Waikiki and took some snapshots of ppl in Halloween costume. This is for her radio show's official blog but we really enjoyed people-watching. Some people dressed as Paparazzi with the photobooth, one as the Japanese TV charactor Baka-tono (a fool/clown in white makeup and Japanese garb), one as superman, some guys as Tahitian dancers, etc. Check out my Japanese blog for their pics.

A new, cool, high-end club is opening in Waikiki!

The new, high-end club called "Lotus Sound Bar" is opening in Waikiki on this coming Friday. What makes them different most from the other clubs is that they have the state-of-the-art sound system that nobody has at Hawaii club scenes.

The club is located right next to ABC Store on Kuhio Ave. Please see the map. The VIP Party inviting media is scheduled to start at 7:00pm, followed by soft opening to public at 10:00pm.　Check it out to celebrate the opening!

Ken Watanabe.......the Japanese Hollywood actor

Yesterday I tagged along with Sachi for the Japanese Hollywood actor, Ken Watanabe's press conference of Hawaii Int'l Film Festival. We participated in the group press conference where lots of Hawaii, USA and Japanese media gathered. Ken Watanabe came down with leukemia long time ago and had to give up his career at that time. But he pushed himself out of the atrocity and climbed the ladder to the position where he is now, the Japanese Hollywood actor. He drew attention of Hollywood people when he played a role in Last Samurai. Geeeez, such a nice guy. After the press conference, we had a chance to have an individual interview with him. OMG, i kept looking at him, his face while Sachi was interviewing him for her radio (J-Wave) show. I had good vibes from him. He has a nice character, really kind and cool.

Dinner at Green Papaya

Last week, actually the day before the big earthquake hit Hawaii, My hubby and I checked out "Green Papaya", which is located at the corner of Keeaumoku St. and Makaloa St.（Map）. I think Green Papaya is one of best Vietnamese places in Honolulu, Hawaii. There is one closer to our place but we wanted to eat at Green Papaya cuz they have "Oxtail Pho".

Consuela's friends were in town for a week or so. I was supposed to join them on Sunday for Lanikai but as you know, the earthquake happened. Plus my personal matter ( I QUIT THAT JOB!!) and stuff kept me busy.

They invited me for the last night's dinner at Likelike Drive-In. Actually it was my first time to be there. How come I didn't go there until now? I'm pretty sure my hubby loves this kinda food.

Anyway, I already had dinner (adobo) so had only dessert, Peach Melba!

What a day.......It was Friday, the 13th. No wonder. Anyway, I quit my job. It was only a matter of time anyway. I liked my job but not the work environment. So I decided to leave yesterday. It was a huge relief. But the only thing which was regrettable was that I wouldn't be able to see my coworkers (actually they were my clients) any more at work. geeeeeeeeeeez, it is a huge loss. But we will see each other again soon.
This morning one of them called and asked me what happened. And another of them gave me email and encouraged me with a heartfelt message. Thank you so much for being friends with me. I was moved to tears.

I will be a bit busy for a month or so. My agent in Japan called last night and asked me if I could take some translation assignments. It would help our household a lot so I took it. It's a huge volume work, say 800 something pages. Gotta refrain from going out a little bit.

2 weeks ago I came down with stomach flu and had to take sick leave for 2 days. It was my first time to take the leave in 3 years. geeeeez. I'm pretty tough and usually try to go in to work even I am sick. But this time I coudn't make it cuz I was damn seriously sick. ha,ha...

Anyhow, I was still sick a little bit last Saturday but got out of bed to check out Aloha Festivals Floral Parade on Ala Moana Blvd. This time I focused on high school kids' Brass bands. Whoa! They were pretty good though some of them looked knocked down by sun. Good job!

Then the trolly of Ken Matsudaira, the Japanese actor passed by. He looked a bit embarrased (LOL). He is the Samurai charactor of "Abarembo Shogun".

Relaxing day at Magic Island

Last weekend was spent at Magic Island on my own. My hubby is very busy with work every day, even on weekends recently. So I decided to go to Magic Island on Saturday afternoon. The water was clear and couldn't believe it was contaminated with dirty water back in March. I think it's ok now to go into the water. Anyway I just wanted to relax lying down on the sand and catching some rays. It was a breezy day so I got lotta sands in my eyes and hair. But I really didn't care.

After the beach, I stopped by Ala Moana SC and got Chinese plate to go.

Again my food critique friend Consuela and I hooked up and went to Singha Thai Cuisine in Waikiki. This place is mainly for tourists, so presentation and entertainment are the most important things for them. The food is OK and I really enjoyed it though they are not spicy enough.

Ward Centers and Indian food

Almost 2 weeks ago (sorry i was lazy i didn't update the blog for this but did for my japanese blog), my friend Consuela and I hit Ward Centers for shopping. She got a cute skirt at Cinnamon Girl but I didn't find anything good. Sigh........I wish they had my size (XXS).

We went to the Indian restaurant called "Maharani" on King St. and university Ave. Actually I was craving Indian food. Honolulu doesn't have so many of them. Anyway, my dream came true!!
We ordered Chicken Curry, Beef with saffron rice and chapatti. They are, I believe, authentic using real Indian spices. 2 Thumbs up!!

I made a September Calendar with the photo I took at Fort Derussy last week. I try to walk home whenever I feel like it. It's good for your health and you are also exposed to nature, noticing something you may not find if you are driving. I took lots of pics there like flowers, trees and stuff. Will post more later.

Dinner at Palomino

On Wednesday my friend Consuela and I went to Palomino, a high-end restaurant in downtown Honolulu. It was my first time to be here. We went to "3 course deal", which is, you choose one from Appetizer, Entree and Dessert each. The food was awesome!! 2 Thumbs up!!

We had "Dungeness Crab and Artichoke Dip" and "Calamari Fritto" for starters, "Rotisserie Pork Chop" and "Lobster Ravioli" for entrees and "Seasonal Fruit Cobbler" and "Tiramisu" for desserts. Geeeeeeez, was I so hungry? I ate pretty much portion actually. Just kept eating , taking pictures, chit-chatting. I think this is pretty good deal for this price.

Last Sunday, my hubby and I went to a hospital where my coworker gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday. She was GENKI and had a lot of hair. Cute.
On our way back home, we stopped by McCully Chop Suey for dinner. It's been a year since we had dinner last. Anyway, we ordered Cold Ginger Chicken, Beef with vegetables, Crispy Gau Gee Mein, Shrimp with Chinese Peas. Geeeeez, the service is always quick. It was only .....less than 5min to get the first dish after we placed an order. I luv it!

Green door Cafe...my feve restaurant!!

Last Saturday Consuela and I went to Green Door Cafe in Chinatown again. This restaurant is kinda popular, I guess. It was featured by several magazines like Honolulu Magazine, Aloha Airline magazine, etc.

We ordered Malaysian Chicken Curry as usual! This time we had Sauteed mushroom and fried Tofu. It was good too. It usually comes mild but we asked them to make it hot. OMG, it was sooooooooo hot, even Consuela said, "it's pretty hot". The restaurant is located on Pauahi and Maunakea st. right next to a flower shop on the corner.

After lunch, we cruised around Chinatown taking lots of pictures. Checked out Maunakea Marketplace as well.

Hilton ducks and flamingos again

Last Sunday my hubby and I went to Waikiki Beach again. Walked through Hilton Hawaiian Village and saw ducks, flamingos, and carps. There were 3 ducks in the same color and pattern followed by one of a different kind. He was closing his eyes while following other guys. He must've been asleep floating on the water. sooooooo cute.
After that, stopped by Smogy house and got Shredded Beef and Cheese Burger & french fries to go.

Chibo Okonomiyaki Restaurant in Waikiki

One of our clients took my boss and me to a Japanese restaurant called "Chibo" at Royal Hawaiian shopping Center in Waikiki last Tuesday. It was my second time to eat there. This restaurant has a variety of Japanese pancakes OKONOMIYAKI and Yakisoba. They are popular with local people. If you go for Okonomiyaki, you can pick 2 things to put inside of it. The one I ordered was Okonomiyaki with Cheese&Mochi and Pork. I luuuuuuuv Cheese!!! We also had Kona Coffee icecream. OMG!! It was superb!! Check out this place!!

Dinner at Outback Steak

Last Sunday my hubby and I went to Outback Steak near Ilikai Hotel. He gotta eat steak once in a while otherwise he gets frustrated (lol). Sunday was the day when this mood kicked in. The restaurant was pretty busy with tourists from mainland but we were able to get seats right away. He ordered ribs with apple cinnamon and I ordered chicken topped with cheddar cheese and mushroom. OMG, it was sooooooooooooooo GOOD!! The honey mustard for my dish was really heavy and thick but tasty. We also had sauteed mushroom as a sidedish. The dark-colored bread which comes before entrees are served is what I really like. Because I eat this bread so much, I always end up with not finishing the entree. Robert finished all his dish. Many Japanese do not like greasy food so much but I do. I prefer Western food to something plain like Japanese. Of course I sometimes make and eat Japanese at home though.

2 days ago somebody at work went to Hilo, the Island of Hawaii and got some gorgeous Japanese sweets. These are from Two Ladies Kitchen based in Hilo. They make Japanese mochi, dango and stuff. Look at these beautiful colors!! The flavors are sweat potato, milk, plum, peach, etc. Whoa! I wanted to try some but I was already full cuz my hubby and I had a big lunch on that day. Will show you the pics from the place a little later.
Last year I went to Hilo but didn't hit this Japanese sweet place.
If you have a chance to go to Hilo, it may be a good idea to stop by this place.

Japanese Restaurant "Yoshiya" in Waikiki

Last week we had a visitor from Japan at work. The guy called "K" currently works in Japan with our Japanese clientele and will be back in town permanently with his wife sometime next year.
Anyway, my boss, K and I went to Yoshiya, the Japanese restaurant in Sheraton Waikiki last Tuesday. I ordered Sushi Special lunch and it was quite good though it was much nicer before. They gave us more sushi and seaweed salad with Ponzu dressing before.

Sometimes I crave for Sushi but not that often.

C-chan's Baby Shower!!

It was my second time to be invited to someone's Baby Shower. First one was my sista in law 3 years ago. We don't have this kinda custom in Japan so I was really excited to be at the party.
This time was one of my coworkers C who is expecting a baby girl! There were about 40 people in the ball room of Shogun restaurant, Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki. The food there is "all-you-can-eat buffet" and they are actually really good. They had crabs last night. I didn't eat them cuz I didn't wanna get my hands dirty (lol). The cake on the right-hand side is a diaper cake made by C-chan's sister. What a beautiful thing! Do you guys make this kinda stuff for baby shower? I was sooooooooo moved!

We ate a lot, talked a lot and did lots of games too, like guessing how big her berry is, answering some Winnie the Pooh's facts quiz cuz she like the Pooh, and guessing how many M&M and Jerry Beans were in each bottle. Actually I won Jerry Beans one !! I guessed 600 and it came out 607. I was the closest! OMG, I've never made it with this kinda game before. Is this my luck?? OK, I'm the next for a baby!!! ha,ha....Yes, actually my hubby and I are trying hard now!(lol)

OMG, the food at Shogun was pretty good! I usually don't eat so much Japanese food but I remember how tasty they are whenever I am there. The butterfish was sooooo good though the crabs were bit too salty. I know how they do at Buffet style restaurants. They put salt more than needed otherwise people eat too much! They can't make money, man! Tempura was, omg!, awesome! I made Tempura the other day but it didn't come out as crispy as these. I luuuuuuuuuuuv "Lomi Salmon" and "Ahi Poke". Was it Chicken Karaage? They were my favorites too! I think there were marinated in some kinda sweetn' sour sauce.

Last Thursday our friends couple invited us to dinner at Korea House on Kapiolani blvd. It was such a good Korean BBQ!! Thought the one in Samsong Plaza was the best in town .......forgot the name. But our friend P told us Korea House is the best. I have no objection about it!

Yesterday my hubby and I hit Waikiki beach again! It's 3 weeks in a row. There were soooooooo many mainlanders on Hilton side of the beach. We saw only a few Japanese tourists there but probably there may be more on Sheraton side cuz they like Sheraton. I remembered Gay Parade was coming on Kalakaua Ave. on that day, so there were also gay couples on the beach.
Took lots of pics inside of Hilton Hawaiian Village, such as flamingos, some birds, ducks, old Hawaiian guards, and stuff.

After the beautiful day on the beach, we went to Ala Moana SC and had dinner at Makai Market. I had Thai plate and Rob got Mama's pasta. After that went to Old Navy and did some shopping. He got 5 T-shirts which were &4.99 each. I didn't buy anything.

Hand-made Mapanua

Last Wedensday one of my coworkers gave me a hand-made Manapua she got from somebody. It has juicy pork and boiled egg in it! OMG, that was sooooooo good! I had it in the morning and felt kinda full already(lol).

During lunch break, another coworker brought us the dish he made the night before......"clam simmered with Japanese sake and a little bit butter" and "shrimp marinated with mayo, wine" and stuff. OMG, they were sooooooo good too! I was soooooo content and happy. he,he...

My Japanese friend's last day

Yumi from Japan was in town for almost 20 days this time. Her trip to Hawaii this time was different from her regular trips. Her friend over here has been sick and Yumi came here to take care of her. Unfortunately, her friend went back and forth btw the hospital and her place. And Yumi was worn out this time. But I think she is so kind and generous to be here to take care of her. Acutally Yumi came to town a month ago with her daughter, stayed here for several days and went back to Japan. Then came back 2 weeks ago again.
Anyway, yesterday was her last day and she flew back to Japanese this morning. She, I and my hubby hooked up at International MP for small dinner and stopped by Rob's friend's cafe on Kuhio Ave. called Euro Cafe. They roast high-quality coffee beans at their place every day and you can smell real good aroma. The sweets are transported from outside of Hawaii. You can have one-of-a-kind experience here at Euro Market Cafe. Oh, and of course, high-speed Wi-Fi is avilable.

Last night my hubby, his best friend/business partner "P", his wife and me went to Ryan's Grill at Ward center. We ordered lots of goodies! like "Ono w/ Green Papaya Salad", "Pork ribs", "crab dip", "today's soup" and "chocolate moose" and "bread pudding with butter sauce" for deserts! Geeeeeeeez I was soooooo happy. Actually I joined my friend for dinner at Tsukune-ya the day before and spent pretty much for that. So when my hubby, P and his wife asked me to join them for dinner, I was all like, "oh, sorry I may not be able to join you guys cuz I spent a lot yesterday." But P goes, "no, no, don't worry the dinner is on our company!" Alright! Here you go!! ha,ha...didn't have to worry about the bill. (^-~)

Kamehameha Day Parade

Kamehameha Day is June 11. This is Kamehameha the Great's birthday. He successfully united all the Hawaii islands and established Hawaiian monarch in 1810. Hawaiian people believe him to be the home of Mana and honor his great achievements on this day. So June 11 is Hawaii state's official holiday.

I heard the parade coming toward our side so rushed near Ilikai hotel. I made it. When i got there, Kamehameha schools cheer leaders were performing. I think this parade is one of the most interesting parades as it features Hawaiian monarch things like "Princess of Kauai", "Princess of Oahu" riding horses...........here are some pics!

Beach and Malaysian food!

Today Consuela and I went to Ala Moana beach on Kiwalo Basin side and caught some rays for a while. It was soooooooooo hot!! Summer has come and it is quite hard to stay in the sun for a long time. We were there for a couple of hours and went to Green Door Cafe in Chinatown, Honolulu. This is Malaysian-Singaporian restaurant located on Maunakea and Pauahi. We ordered Malaysian style chicken curry, eggplant with peanut sauce and seabass stirfry. The food was awesome!! don't know why i loooooooooove Southeast Asian food so much!! We ordered Chapatai (sorry for misspelling) which is Indian bread thiner and a little harder than Nan. What makes me smile and happy is Jasmin rice. I usually buy and eat Japanese rice which mainlanders call "sticky rice". Yes it is sticky and is good for making sushi. But when it comes to soupy Indonesia, Thai, Malaysian curries and stuff, Jasmin rice is perfect. It is fluffy and goes with curries!!!!! Yummy!

After lunch, we went to Red Elephant Cafe near Indigo lounge. The cafe is decorated with local artists' arts and a live stage. It's good to hang out and chitchat.

We went to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant on Ena Rd. last night. My hubby had "Pork chop" and me, "Lemon grass chicken". OMG, I looooooove lemon grass chicken!! Why do I really love Southeast Asian food like Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian, Indonesia, etc? Is this because they use lots of different kinds of spices, herbs and stuff? I like Japanese food because it focuses on presentation, simplicity and delicateness. But I prefer Southeast Asian food. I am a Vietnamese food freak!! (lol)

One of my coworkers told me how to make Laotian / Vietnamese springroll. And I tried making it. It didn't come out good. Need more practice. huh ........ should I put fishsauce too? I did Vietnamese curry too but ... it didn't come out good either. ha,ha

Lantern Festival 2006

We went to Lantern Festival 2006 at Magic Island today. It was the third time for me to join it. Japanese Buddhism sect "Shinnyoen" and other groups sponsor this event on Memorial day every year. They invited Jake Shimabukuro for this event to play some special songs to those who sacrificed in those wars. My hubby spotted the founder/owner of "Town & Country" Craig Sugihara who was on his surfboard to see everything was alright during this event.

Di Giorno pizza

Last night we had Di Giorno frozen Pizza and Tofu salad. We think Di Giorno is pretty good for a frozen pizza. Tofu salad I made came out good too.
Today we are thinking about going to Lanten Festival 2006 at Ala Moana.

Japanese women's weeklies

My mom sent me some Japanese women's magazines. They are like "People", "Us" and such. These magazines have some Japanese food recipes. Good for me! I'm not a good chef so she told me to learn how to cook with these magazines. ha,ha...
I am always suprised to see the front pages of lots of Korean actors/stars. In Japan Korean TV dramas are booming and middle-aged women are crazy about them. I have watched some Korean TV dramas and their love stories are so pure with sensatinoal plot development, which draws Japanese women's attention.
Anyway, I will be going thru these weeklies tonight.

Hey, how are you guys spending 3-day holiday? We are just relaxing doing nothing. Actually my hubby is knocked down and sound a sleep now. So I am just doing Internet surfing and image editing. I found some interesting stuff.

I finally started SKYPE! I really didn't know Windows Me supports SKYPE. When I checked the spec, it says, "Supported OS: Windows XP, 2000". So I really didn't care about it so much. But the other I just wanted do give it a shot and it worked. I went to their website later and checked the spec one more time(this time, really carefully) and found the description........"Recommended OS" , so which means XP may be the best to run SKYPE but other old versions may be working. Whoa!

As soon as I did function test with a new microphone and headset, I called my parents in Japan after I got SKYPE credit for $10. I guess we talked for half an hour and they charged me only 20cents! What a .......... I spent $5 for only 90min before but..........technological advances!! Amazing. The voice quality is not perfect but it works!

Kiwami Ramen in Waikiki

My blog friends from Japan are in town in turns, ha.ha... On Monday one of my Japanese blog friends and I hooked up in Waikiki and went to Kiwami Ramen restaurant at the basement of Waikiki Shopping Plaza. I ordered Wakame (seaweed) ramen in Shoyu-based soup. In lunch time, they offer a bowl of Cha siu rice for free. The ramen they make is ok and so-so tasty. Their noodle is really thin which is Kyoto style.

Today Consuela and I went to Pearlridge and Waikele areas. We had lunch at a Thai place called "Champa Thai". What we ordered was Pineapple coconut curry with pork, Pad Thai, and Sweet and sour veggie. We were busy with photoshoot for our blogs (lol). The interior was nice too. I am learning Photoshop every day and she told me she uses Picasa. But i think i gave up on it long time ago cuz it doesn't support Windows Me, the obsolete, notorious OS. Anyway, this time I dropped shadows on some food pics!
Then we headed out to Waikele Premium Outlets. We checked Guess,Bebe,Coach,A/X, etc. Also checked out Old Navy in Waikele Center. I always have hard time finding my size over here in Hawaii so got only one brown cheap tanktop.
Hit the road to the airport, dropped by Starbucks where Neko showed up! It was my first meeting with him and we really enjoyed talking.
